NEAPOLIS UNIVERSITY PAFOS - INVESTING IN THE FUTURE OF THE CITY

NEAPOLIS UNIVERSITY PAFOS - INVESTING IN THE FUTURE OF THE CITY - Filenews 1/7

The development of a city is also measured by its ability to attract knowledge, cultivate talent and create prospects

In the debate about Paphos, emerging as an investment market and a city redefining its identity, one important factor is often underestimated: the presence of an internationally recognized university. The development of a city is also measured by its ability to attract knowledge, cultivate talent and create prospects.

Neapolis University Pafos started its operation in 2010, with a clear bet: to prove that quality higher education is not an exclusive prerogative of the major European capitals.

Fifteen years later, this bet has been won. Neapolis University Pafos currently has five faculties, offering 15 undergraduate, 34 postgraduate, and 6 doctoral degree programs in the fields of Management, Psychology, Law, Architecture, Engineering, Medical Sciences, and Communication.

All titles are fully recognized by the Republic of Cyprus and DOATAP, ensuring professional protection throughout Europe.

Today, students from dozens of countries enrol in it, creating a permanent, multicultural community that actively contributes to the economic and social life of the city. A community that lives, works and often stays in the city. This presence has a multiplier footprint: it brings in international visitors and produces graduates ready to staff critical sectors of the economy.

International interconnection as a strategic choice

Neapolis was not satisfied with the local footprint. As a full member of the EMERGE Alliance of European Universities, a network of nine universities from eight European countries with a total student community of more than 125,000, it participates in shaping the University of the future.

Through the Magellan Network, Neapolis connects with universities and research institutions worldwide. The presence in China through the Civil Engineering program with Baoding University and the Jean Monnet and UNESCO Chairs, compose a triptych of extroversion, European, global, institutional, which confirms that the international dimension of Neapolis is not a slogan, but a functional reality with measurable results.

An equally emblematic step in this direction is the academic partnership with the University of Reading, one of the top British universities with a global ranking of 192nd (QS Rankings 2026).

From the academic year 2025–2026, students obtain a University of Reading degree by studying in Paphos: either through the LLB in Law, or through the LLM in International Commercial Law for graduates and professionals.

The combination is rare: British academic recognition, teaching in English, competitive tuition fees compared to corresponding British programs and settling in an EU member state with a high quality of life.

A separate chapter is the new Medical School, which is being developed in collaboration with the Democritus University of Thrace. The joint program combines studies in Paphos with clinical training at the University General Hospital of Alexandroupolis, offering students access to modern academic and clinical infrastructure.

For Paphos, the presence of a Medicine program significantly enhances its academic footprint and creates new prospects for the health sector.

Knowledge that generates value

The University's research activity highlights Paphos as a center of knowledge production: the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence AI-2-TRACE-CRIME and the UNESCO Chair in Human Development and Security create infrastructure that feeds a modern research and innovation ecosystem in the region. At the same time, actions such as the Law Clinic and the Mock Criminal Trial strengthen the connection between theory and practice.

In the field of technology, Neapolis has made moves that go beyond the borders of the island. The BSc in Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence is the first undergraduate program in Artificial Intelligence in Cyprus.

At the same time, the distinctions of the students confirm the quality of the programs. In 2025, the Neapolis team participated in the finals of the ICPC World Finals as the only university from Cyprus and Greece, while in 2026 it won first place in the international IWLS Programming Contest.

These results are now reflected in the international rankings as well. According to Webometrics 2026, Neapolis ranks in the top 7% of universities worldwide.

In the SCImago Institutions Rankings 2026, the University gained 1,082 places in a single year, while in the Innovation category it is ranked 3rd in Cyprus, confirming that investing in knowledge pays off.

Human capital for a changing city

Paphos is recording remarkable growth: the real estate market strengthened by 15% in the first eight months of 2025, tourism remains a main driver and important infrastructure projects are upgrading the urban image.

In this context, a university is not just an educational institution, it is a producer of the human capital that the market needs. With professional absorption rates of graduates reaching 95% and a Liaison Office that organizes career workshops and mentoring programs with Cypriot and international companies, Neapolis acts as a bridge between the academic and business worlds.

The modern campus of the University, with student dormitories, sports facilities and comprehensive support services, complements an academic experience that combines quality of life and international perspective.

The next chapter

The future of Neapolis deserves special attention in the context of the development of Paphos. The University has presented the masterplan for the Neapolis Smart Eco City, an ambitious development plan that will transform the campus into an academic and research hub with a capacity of up to 10,000 students.

At the core of this expansion strategy is the creation of an independent Medical School within the Neapolis ecosystem, as well as a Health Park & Wellness Centre, infrastructure that will place Paphos on the map of medical education in the Eastern Mediterranean.

In an era where cities compete to attract talent, knowledge, and investment, Paphos boasts a strong comparative advantage: a university that acts as a catalyst for growth. Neapolis is not just a part of the city's history, it's one of the reasons Paphos has reason to look forward with confidence.
