Over €40 million. The Larnaca District Local Government Organization (EOAL) has secured European funds, announcing that it promotes projects that contribute to the modernization of infrastructure, the green and digital transition and the sustainable management of water resources.
Since its inception, the EDA has secured approximately €11 million. from the Recovery and Resilience Plan for water supply and sewerage projects, including the installation of 27,500 smart water meters, the construction of a new water tank with a capacity of 12,000 cubic meters, the digital transformation of Water Supply and Sewerage Services through the Zenon Drinking & Waste Water Decision Support System tool in collaboration with the University of Cyprus and the installation of photovoltaic systems to enhance energy efficiency autonomy.
In addition, more than €27 million have been disbursed. from the THALEIA 2021 – 2027 Program for Phase C of the Larnaca Sewerage System, approximately €1.2 million. for flood protection projects, as well as €3 million. for the water supply network of Oroklini.
HOA Larnaca also participates in major European research and innovation projects, such as FRESHNESS with funding of €250,000, Sludge2Energy with €622,500 and REGENIOUS, with €750,000. These projects concern energy efficiency, sustainable management of water resources, the utilization of sewage sludge for energy and biochar production, as well as the development of new circular economy technologies.
"The participation of EOA Larnaca in European projects of high added value confirms its strategic commitment to innovation, environmental protection and the creation of modern and resilient infrastructure for the benefit of the citizens of the province," the Organization states.
He also added that a significant part of the effort it is making is also related to the development of collaborations with academic, research, institutional and environmental bodies, through Memoranda of Cooperation. Among others, HOC Larnaca collaborates with universities, research centers and water supply and sewerage organizations from Cyprus and Greece.
