In ten years, the Court of Appeal increased the seven-year, concurrent prison sentence imposed on a defendant at first instance, in each of the 48 charges in which he was found guilty and relate to a case of sexual abuse of a minor. The decision of the Court of Appeal, which was issued on 30 June 2026, was taken following an appeal registered by the Attorney General of the Republic for a manifestly inadequate sentence imposed, on the basis of the seriousness of the offences and the repeated acts in question, the penalty provided, the case law and the need for general prevention and deterrence.
The case was heard in a closed-door procedure due to the age of the victim.
In addition to the above concurrent prison sentences, the Court of Appeal upheld the order issued by the court of first instance, which prohibits the accused:
1. To be employed or employed in places where children are or frequent.
2. To live in an area that is adjacent to organized spaces where children live or frequent.
Furthermore, he was referred to the Supervisory Authority throughout his detention in the Central Prisons as well as for a period of five years after his release.
On behalf of the Attorney General of the Republic, the case was handled by Ms. Xenia Xenophontos, Senior Public Prosecutor.

The 30-year-old from Bulgaria, father of the two unfortunate boys aged 8 and 10, who were found dead in their stepmother's car on Sunday afternoon, was brought before the Court of Dhekelia shortly after 12:30 noon on Thursday. The children had been left unattended, since the father rushed to work in Limassol on Sunday morning, while his 38-year-old partner, who was initially arrested, however, was released unconditionally yesterday.
Based on the findings of the investigations, the investigators of the BB's Crime Detection Department (CID) decided to bring only the father before court, since he is the guardian of the children. The 30-year-old is suspected of two offenses of causing death due to a reckless and reckless act.
It is recalled that the two children have been recorded by a CCTV camera, which is activated through traffic, playing in the yard and then continuing their game in the fatal vehicle, in which they remained for more than three hours. The children seem to have managed to enter the car, which was parked in the open area of the apartment building where they lived, through an open door in the back. As Filenews revealed yesterday, expert examinations showed damage to this door, which remained unlocked, despite the fact that the car was locked. It then seems that they locked themselves in the car and were trapped in it, since the child lock was also activated.
The two children seem to have got into the car at noon on Sunday and were found unconscious in the back seat, by the father's partner, after 5:30 in the afternoon of the same day. Although the predominant cause of death is suffocation, the BBs are keeping it open at this stage, pending the results of the tests on samples taken from the bodies of the two children, by the Greek medical examiner, Manolis Sakeliadis.
