CRIME ROUND UP

 Pafos Press 15 July 2026

In recent days, on different occasions, the Police have been called upon to deal with violent behaviour and fights between young people who, for no apparent reason, get into fights and seek to resolve their differences by using force.

We had such a case yesterday where about ten young people of Syrian origin stopped in a field in Paphos and after getting out of their cars, they began to fight, while as can be seen from the short video obtained by PafosPress, some of them were also holding sticks in their hands. - https://pafospress.com/pafos-dystychos-eginan-kathimerinotit/

The three-way fight even took place in front of the terrified eyes of neighbours who were immortalizing the moments with their mobile phones.

Unfortunately, the whole situation has become everyday life and it will not be long before we have undesirable developments if immediate and drastic measures are not taken.

The two Greek Cypriots, who were arrested on July 12, 2026, were presented before a "court" in the occupied territories on charges of "illegal entry and violation of a military zone".

As it became known from the "court" of the occupied territories, it is a soldier of the National Guard as well as a woman.

It is recalled that the two were arrested on charges of violating a military restricted access zone and without completing the "immigration control" procedures, two young Greek Cypriots were arrested yesterday.

According to the website "Lefka Hamber", the two Greek Cypriot citizens, described as friends, entered the "territory of the TRNC" through the Pyrgos/Limniti crossing point.  It is claimed that they continued their course with their vehicle without completing the necessary "immigration procedures" at the roadblock.

After checks by "police teams", it is added, the two people were arrested for "not fulfilling the legal entry procedures" and after an investigation - as reported - it was discovered that they had violated a "military restricted zone".

The "police", it is added, are conducting a meticulous investigation to fully clarify all aspects of the incident and the suspects are expected to be brought before the "court".

The authorities of the Republic of Cyprus have been aware of the incident since yesterday and appropriate actions are being taken.

The "military court" issued a three-day detention order for the two persons, while the investigation continues. The next hearing before the "military court" was set for Thursday, July 16.

The case against a lawyer, who was reported by a 19-year-old woman for sexual harassment, during their meeting at the offices of YKAN Limassol, last week, was registered before the Limassol District Court.

The case file was forwarded the day before yesterday to the Legal Service for study and instructions, which ultimately provided for the immediate registration of the case in the Court. The proceedings were completed the next day, while the case was set for trial at a later stage.

The lawyer faces a charge related to the crime of sexual harassment, while until the trial of the case the presumption of innocence applies. It is recalled that the lawyer was released at noon last Thursday, after his arrest by the Limassol Police Department as part of the investigation of the complaint.

He had been taken into custody for the purpose of investigating the case. During his interrogation, he gave his own allegations, which were examined by the investigators of the Limassol Police Department.

According to the 19-year-old's complaint, the incident took place during a meeting with the lawyer, who had gone to the offices of YKAN in Limassol in order to take over her legal representation, after her arrest in a drug case. The meeting took place without the presence of a member of the Police, with the 19-year-old claiming that she was sexually harassed during it.

Claiming that he accidentally found 13 bullets under a stone on Dasoudi beach and took them with him thinking they were souvenirs, a 43-year-old Greek Cypriot tried to justify their possession. The bullets were found yesterday during the security check at the entrance of the Limassol District Court, where he had gone for an affidavit, with the Police investigating both his allegations and the origin of the explosives.

The 43-year-old was brought before the Court today (15/7), with the investigators of the TAE requesting his detention for a period of two days to facilitate the examinations. The request was granted by the Court.

According to information from our website, the 43-year-old, when interrogated, claimed that he had found the cartridges yesterday morning, when he had gone swimming in the Dasoudi area. As he mentioned, after leaving his personal belongings in a specific place, he noticed a bag under a large stone. He opened it and found that it contained bullets. He claimed that he did not know if they were real or fake, but he thought it was probably a souvenir. He also stated that he placed them in his purse and then went to the Court, where he had a scheduled meeting with his lawyer to make an affidavit.

His allegations are being investigated by the investigators of the Limassol Police Department, while investigations are expected to be carried out in the area and closed surveillance circuits are expected to be examined. The 13 bullets were received as evidence and will be sent for scientific examinations.

It is recalled that the 43-year-old came to the Limassol District Court yesterday at noon. During the check carried out in the security arch, the guard found through the machine the existence of suspicious objects in his bag. When asked to open it, he flipped it, causing 13 9mm calibre bullets to fall.

Cyprus has been officially informed of the arrest in Dubai of alleged organised crime figure ‘Edik’, who is also wanted by Cyprus police, with officials now seeking clarification over which international warrant was executed and what impact the development could have on the island’s own investigation.

According to Omega, well informed sources confirmed Cyprus has received formal notification of the arrest, although it remains unclear whether the detention was carried out under warrants issued by Greece, France or another jurisdiction.

Police had previously secured an arrest warrant for Edik in connection with investigations on the island.

The warrant followed a major police operation in Limassol on May 14, during which a police officer and two expatriates were arrested with assets worth around €500,000 which were seized.

During the initial court proceedings in that case, investigators alleged the operation was connected to “a person wanted by the Greek authorities for cigarette and fuel smuggling”, identifying that individual as Edik.

According to Omega, Cyprus is expected to pursue a European arrest warrant once the suspect is transferred to either Greece or France and the legal basis for his detention has been clarified.

Due to the fact that no bilateral extradition agreement exists between Cyprus and the United Arab Emirates, cooperation is expected to continue through Interpol procedures.

Greek authorities have also sought Edik for alleged involvement in organised crime, while French authorities have reportedly been investigating him as a suspect in the attempted murder of a Ukrainian national holding Cypriot citizenship in Monaco.

Greek media first reported the arrest earlier this week, although subsequent reports suggested extradition to Greece had not yet been secured despite the activation of an international arrest warrant.

News outlet Documento reported that legal representatives for the suspect are expected to challenge any extradition request.

The publication said the Greek arrest warrant covers allegations including participation in a criminal syndicate as well as large scale smuggling.

Previous reporting in Greece claimed Russian authorities had informed Athens that Edik is recognised as a Russian citizen and requested assurances regarding his rights and protection should he ultimately be extradited to Greece.

According to the same reports, his legal team is also seeking his transfer to Russia rather than Greece.
