The Paphos – Polis Chrysochous highway and the extension of the small port in Latchi will be the two major projects in the province that will concern local authorities, state officials and citizens this summer. Based on the assurances of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Alexis Vafeadis at the meeting held in the Chrysochous apartment on May 28, white smoke will come out in August for both of these projects.
Mr. Vafeadis stated that the Ministry's goal is to complete as soon as possible the technical evaluation of the offer for Phase A of the motorway, so that the relevant decisions can be made for the promotion of the project.
Regarding Phase B, the competent minister said that the expropriation process is underway, expressing the estimate that in 2026 there will be a four-way road network from Polis Chrysochous to Stroumbi.
Regarding the works in the first part of the project, Mr. Vafeadis stressed that it depends on the tender award process and the decisions of the Tender Council, but a clear picture is expected to be in August, he estimated.
Regarding the port in Latsi, a project with a budget of €50 million, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works said that the Ports Authority is waiting for the approvals from the Department of Environment, in order to proceed with the announcement of the tender, which the Authority is ready for, he said.
We remind you that the upgrade of the port area of Polis Chrysochous will include an expansion of the internal port with the capacity to serve approximately 190 to 200 new vessels.
At the same time, new infrastructure will be created on land, such as dining areas, offices and other support facilities, while additional developments that could be implemented at a later stage are also being considered.
