A broom operation has been taking place since Tuesday morning on the beach near the Larnaca Nautical Club that has been occupied for weeks by caravans, the owners of which, according to the complaints, did not allow access to other bathers.
A similar procedure is expected to be followed on a nearby beach where wooden shacks were built on the sea.
The issue caused a stir when it was aired by "F" last Saturday, given that no Authority undertook to remove the illegality, which had been going on for weeks. This caused the intervention of the Minister of the Interior, Konstantinos Ioannou, who immediately gave instructions to prepare letters from the Larnaca District Administration, as the competent Authority, and to give an ultimatum to the offenders.
The warning letters were given last Saturday and this morning crews of the Larnaca District Administration, with the assistance of the Municipality of Larnaca, began to move the caravans. Police forces are also in the area.
As Ilias Hatzilias, head of the Abandoned Vehicles Department of the Municipality of Larnaca, told Filenews, by 9 am on Tuesday, 4 caravans had been confiscated. He also added that large stones were placed at the entrance of the beach in order to prevent large vehicles from entering the beach
