BOARD OF PEACE WRAPS UP CYPRUS TALKS WITH PALESTINIAN TECHNOCRATIC COMMITTEE

BOARD OF PEACE WRAPS UP CYPRUS TALKS WITH PALESTINIAN TECHNOCRATIC COMMITTEE - Cy Mail 2/7 by Eleni Panayiotou

The Palestinian technocratic committee expected to assume a role in the post-war administration of Gaza announced late on Wednesday that it had completed its two-day meetings in Cyprus, which focused on humanitarian management, reconstruction and the framework for the territory’s future governance.

The committee said it held a series of meetings with experts from the Board of Peace, the office of the High Representative for Gaza, Nikolay Mladenov, and the Tony Blair Institute.

According to the committee, the discussions focused on immediately implementable projects, reconstruction plans, security issues and mechanisms for transparency and accountability towards international donors.

The committee reiterated its support for the 20-point plan put forward by US President Donald Trump and said it was ready to assume responsibilities in coordination with the Board of Peace, without providing a specific timeline.

The initiative forms part of a US-backed effort to establish a transitional administration in Gaza, aimed at removing Hamas from power and restoring essential services.

The second phase of the agreement envisaged a gradual Israeli withdrawal and the handover of Hamas’ weapons, a process which has not yet been implemented. Hamas, meanwhile, rejects any discussion on the issue.
