Suitcases, tickets, and passport aren't the only things you need to check before a trip to Europe.
A few simple moves can greatly facilitate your access to medical care if a health problem arises during the holidays.
Through the Electronic Cross-Border Health Services and MyHealth@EU network, in which Cyprus participates, you can securely access basic information about your health, in order to inform the health professionals who will serve you.
At the same time, in the countries that are connected to the network, citizens can execute electronic prescriptions and obtain their medication from participating pharmacies abroad.
The three steps before departure
Before you leave for your trip:
Ask your personal physician to create your Summary Medical History.
Make sure your e-prescriptions are registered if you are taking medication.
Check if the services MyHealth@EU provided in your destination country.
Preparation should be done before departure so that the necessary information is available if the need arises during the trip.
What a doctor can see abroad
A Summary Medical History includes critical information that can help treat an incident more safely. Among them are:
allergies,
chronic diseases,
medication,
other important medical data.
Access to this data can prove valuable when the patient needs immediate care or is unable to provide all the information about their health status.
To date, in addition to Cyprus, Greece, Latvia, Luxembourg, Croatia, Poland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Estonia, the Czech Republic and Spain have been connected to the network.
