WE PROTECT STATE FORESTS - WE CAMP RESPONSIBLY

WE PROTECT STATE FORESTS - WE CAMP RESPONSIBLY - Pafos Live 23/6

The Department of Forests of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment invites the public to contribute to the protection of the state forests and the valuable natural habitats of Cyprus by choosing to camp only in the approved and organized camping sites.

1. Camp only in the approved and organized camping sites

2. During the summer months, there is an increased number of illegal camping in areas of special ecological value, such as the Akamas National Forest Park. Uncontrolled human presence, litter and waste disposal, as well as other interventions, put a strain on sensitive habitats, disrupt wildlife and degrade the natural environment.

3. The risk of causing a fire from lighting a fire is also particularly serious, which is strictly prohibited outside specially designed areas in organized picnic and camping areas. A single fire outbreak can cause incalculable damage to the forest environment, biodiversity and human lives.

4. It is reminded that arbitrary camping and lighting a fire in violation of the law are offenses that carry severe penalties, according to the Forestry Law. The Department of Forests, in cooperation with the Police, the Paphos District Administration, the Municipality of Akamas and the Game and Fauna Service, will continue to carry out inspections and implement the legislation where violations are found.

5. The Department of Forests appeals to all visitors to show respect for the natural environment and to contribute responsibly to the preservation of forests and protected areas for future generations.

The protection of forests is a matter for all of us.
