Despite the satisfaction that has recently prevailed among the social bodies of Paphos and especially in the educational community, from the formalization of the inclusion of the overground pedestrian bridge project on Tassos Papadopoulos Avenue in this year's state budgets, however, Paphos is still in a waiting attitude for the start of the works on the ground.
The overground pedestrian bridge was included in the announcements of President Christodoulidis as they were announced to the authorities of Paphos last September, followed by the formalization of the intentions through the funds provided for the project, a fact that satisfied organized groups, institutions and officials of the city given that the plans remained at a verbal level for a number of years.
However, so far the project is not included in the frequent reports of Paphos' pending issues, which is done with the Paphos-Polis highway, the marina or the new airport road, which also creates a climate of reservation. And this, given that this project is treated with particular sensitivity in Paphos, since it touches on the safety of hundreds of students who cross this avenue every day, all the more so since a few years ago the first tragic loss of a student was recorded in her attempt to cross the avenue from a controlled crossing point.
Now the process has entered a preparatory part with the preparation of a simplified plan of the overpass by the Department of Urban Planning and Housing, the necessary approvals, the preparation of the construction plans and the start of the works. The project is promoted as urban planning, with funding at a rate of 80% from the budget of the Department of Urban Planning and Housing and 20% from the budget of the Municipality of Paphos.
