Data collection flights will be carried out along sections of the A1, A2 and A3 highways from June 8 to June 18.
The Department of Public Works has announced a traffic monitoring program that will use drones to gather data along several major motorways in Cyprus over an 11-day period this month.
The operation is scheduled to run from June 8 through June 18, with flights taking place daily between 9:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The drones will be deployed along selected stretches of the A1, A2 and A3 motorways, covering areas in the Nicosia, Larnaca and Famagusta districts.
According to the department, the aerial surveys will focus on collecting information about traffic patterns and vehicle movement. The monitored routes include the section of the A1 between the Agia Varvara/Nisou interchange and the Sia interchange, the A2 between the Agia Varvara/Nisou interchange and the Rizoelia interchange, and part of the A3 from the Rizoelia interchange to the Livadia exit.
Officials said the drones will operate alongside the motorways rather than directly above active traffic lanes. Flights in the Nicosia and Larnaca districts will take place over roadside embankments running parallel to the highways.
The department also stated that any information gathered during the operation will be processed in accordance with European Union data protection rules under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Motorists are advised that drone activity may be visible along the affected routes during the survey period. The Department of Public Works apologized for any inconvenience and thanked the public for its cooperation.
