THE NEW PROTECTION MEASURES FOR COURIER MOTORCYCLISTS - THE EQUIPMENT THEY ARE REQUIRED TO CARRY - Filenews 12/6


The Department of Road Transport of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works informs that from May 29, 2026, new obligations apply to motorcycle drivers operating in the sectors of product distribution, courier and postal services.
Specifically, drivers who use a motorcycle of categories AM, A1, A2 and A for the delivery of products, including ready-made food, beverages, other edible products or objects, as well as for courier or postal services, are required to carry:

-an appropriately fastened helmet of an approved type, and
-equipment falling into at least two of the following categories:
      -jacket or vest with phosphorescent stripes, outside the clothing and above the waist,
      -long trousers, boots or closed shoes and gloves;
      -airbag, specially designed for use in a vehicle of categories AM, A1, A2 and A.

The obligation is provided for in paragraph (4) of article 8 of the Driving License Law Law 94(I)/2001, as amended, and applies regardless of the form of employment or cooperation of the driver, with or without remuneration.

The regulation aims to strengthen road safety and better protect motorcycle drivers, who use the road network daily in the context of a professional or related activity.

The Department of Road Transport calls on all affected drivers and professionals to comply with the provisions of the legislation.
