Police investigations are nearing completion in the case of the arrest of four Palestinians, 32, 38, 54 and 57 years old for terrorism, which took on international dimensions, after the arrest of a 37-year-old man in Crete last Saturday.
Tomorrow, the 4 arrested in Cyprus will be brought before the Larnaca District Court again, where in a closed-door procedure, they are expected to be referred to a direct trial before the Permanent Criminal Court.
The 32-year-old and the 38-year-old, who are considered Hamas cells and are said to have been preparing terrorist attacks on Israeli targets in Cyprus, are expected to face heavier charges, given that the 54-year-old and the 57-year-old were not directly linked to the explosives manufacturing materials.
According to information from "F", a key role in this very serious case is played by the 38-year-old, who arrived illegally (estimated by the occupied territories) in Cyprus only in recent months, as is believed to be the case to manufacture the explosives and give instructions for the targets.
The 38-year-old is also considered a key person in the case of the arrest of the 37-year-old in Greece, who confessed that the two were together in a Hamas camp in Malaysia in August 2025 and were trained in making explosives. As reported yesterday by Greek media, in fact, the 37-year-old claimed that the 38-year-old detained in Cyprus financed him.
Both the Cypriot and Greek authorities are aware of at least one more common person in the two cases, which seems to have played an even more crucial role in what has been internationally described as the "European network" of Hamas.
This person seems to have had a presence in a large European country, whose authorities have been informed about it. "There is a continuous exchange of information with the authorities of many countries, as is the case in all similar cases," a competent source told our newspaper, noting that all the evidence shows that terrorist attacks on Cypriot soil were prevented.
What remains a puzzle is the level of involvement of the 54-year-old and the 57-year-old, with Cypriot citizenship, who have been in our country since the mid-1980s, without having been involved with their action. According to the Police, the son of one does not seem to be involved, who, as revealed by Filenews, serves in the Force in a department related to foreign issues.
The role of the 32-year-old Palestinian, who has been living with his wife and child in Cyprus for the last few years, is clearer for the Police. The suspect was linked to both houses on Governor's Beach and Kamares, Larnaca, in which chemicals, including ammonia nitrate, were found. As it turned out, he procured some of these materials from the Cypriot market.
The President of the Republic also referred to the case succinctly yesterday, when asked about it. "Absolutely no public statement concerning the public security of the country. The only thing I want to mention is that all the services of the state work every day without becoming an issue in the public debate to protect Cypriot citizens. The security of the country, security in all areas is a top priority," he noted, adding that "there are issues almost every day, which we manage without seeing the light of day."
