The authorities, who believe that they prevented terrorist attacks in Cyprus, have a clear picture of the plans of those arrested for terrorism. As Filenews wrote in a previous report, three people aged 32, 38 and 54 were brought earlier today (11/6) under draconian security measures before the Larnaca District Court and were referred to a direct trial at the Criminal Court that will start on August 6. The process took place behind closed doors and according to information, the 54-year-old filed an objection to his detention, with the court reserving his decision for tomorrow morning at 10:00.
It is noted that initially the 57-year-old brother of the 54-year-old was also arrested and was finally released since nothing came of it against him. The other two did not object to their detention. The defendants face very serious charges, including terrorism, conspiracy to murder, conspiracy to commit a felony, money laundering and participation in a criminal organization. The case began to unfold on May 21 when the 32-year-old and the 38-year-old were arrested in an area of Limassol. A 38-year-old man was found to have resided illegally in Cyprus and to have entered the free areas from the occupied territories a few days earlier.
A search followed at the house on Governor's Beach and the apartment in Kamares, Larnaca, which are connected to the 32-year-old, and it was found that there were dangerous substances in them, as well as specific equipment. As it turned out, these were chemicals and equipment compatible with the manufacture of explosives. Following information, the 54-year-old was arrested a week later in a community in Larnaca, who allegedly received a package on behalf of one of the other suspects. In his testimony, the 32-year-old allegedly confessed that he was approached by a Palestinian, who lives in Malaysia, and offered to help him financially. He allegedly went, in fact, 4 times abroad where he received instructions to buy objects and substances with the aim of making explosives. In addition, according to his confession, the Palestinian, who is wanted, asked him to take specific photos from various places in Cyprus and told him that he was a member of Hamas.

The Palestinian in question allegedly said that he would send him a monthly salary and then sent the 38-year-old to Cyprus, because he knew how to make explosives. The 32-year-old also allegedly pointed out the stores in Cyprus from which he bought the materials found in the two houses. The 38-year-old was found to live in Malaysia with his family and to be a physics teacher. He claimed that he came to Cyprus to seek asylum and declared ignorance of the materials. He said that he had met the 32-year-old in Malaysia 2 years ago and that the latter would host him. The third defendant reportedly claims that he has nothing to do with the case.
It is recalled that he has been in Cyprus for 40 years, holds Cypriot citizenship and 4 of his children serve in security forces (Police and National Guard).
