The Office of the Commissioner for Environment and Animal Welfare, in collaboration with the Education Unit for the Environment and Sustainable Development of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, are organizing the second information day to promote the candidacy of the Xeros and Diarizos river valley region as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
The conference will take place today, Friday, June 12, 2026, from 09:30 to 13:30, at the Panagia Environmental Education Center. The event follows the signing of the contract for the preparation of the region's candidacy file in January 2026, as well as the information and consultation actions that are underway with local communities and stakeholders. The Deputy District Officer of Paphos, Ms. Frosso Georgiou, will address the audience, while the Commissioner of the Region of Paphos, Ms. Antonia Theodosiou, will present the progress of the initiative to date.
Presentations will also be made by the Director of the Paphos Development Agency Aphrodite Ltd, Mr. Eugene Savva, as well as representatives of government agencies, academic institutions, local government and other stakeholders.
