A rescue operation was set up in Larnaca for a shipwrecked person in the area of Zygi.
In a statement, the Search and Rescue Coordination Center (JRC) states that, on June 28, 2026 at 5:30 in the morning, it activated the National Search and Rescue Plan "NEARCHOS", with the aim of rescuing a castaway in distress, in the sea area of Zygi in Larnaca.
For the execution of the Search and Rescue operation, high-speed boats of the Port and Maritime Police and the Underwater Destruction Unit of the GEEF, a helicopter of the Police Air Operations Unit as well as an ambulance of the Ambulance Service were mobilized.
The rescued person was pulled out by the speedboat of the Port and Maritime Police, in good condition and handed over to an ambulance at the Zygi Fishing Shelter.
