The Minister of Defence, Vassilis Palmas, attended the international defence and security exhibition Eurosatory 2026, who visited the Cypriot and Greek pavilions of the exhibition, while as he mentioned he was informed "about the latest technological trends in the global defence market".
"In the context of my presence at the Cyprus pavilion, I met with the Secretary General of Defense Products of the Brazilian Ministry of Defense, with whom we exchanged views on issues of common interest, as well as on the prospects for establishing cooperation, with an emphasis on technological development and innovation," said the Minister of Defense.
As part of his visit, he gave an interview to the website Defence Redefined. The Minister was asked if the National Guard will choose armaments from the domestic market. Mr. Palmas replied that "the state contributes (to the defense industry). We, as the Ministry of Defense, subsidize through tenders, many companies that produce and offer some innovative products and at the same time, through their connections and the connections they have with the European Union, receive funds, in order to produce various products that have the technological ability to deliver to the European Commission."
He also said that "through the defense industry, the benefits we will have can be many. In matters of Defense and security, but at the same time with the development of this industry, we can create another new industry, for the economy of Cyprus and have a contribution to the GDP.
