MORE THAN 1.3 million JEEP VEHICLES RECALLED - MOSTLY FROM THE US, DUE TO FIRE CONCERN - Filenews 9/6

The Stellantis car consortium has announced that it is recalling more than 1,3 million. SUVs and Jeep trucks worldwide due to concerns about causing a fire and urged car owners to park away from structures or other vehicles until the repair is complete.

The recall covers the Jeep Wrangler SUV and the Jeep Gladiator truck, model years 2021-2025, due to an electrical connection problem in the wiring of the electric steering hydraulic pump, which in rare cases could cause flammable materials to overheat, potentially resulting in a fire in the vehicle.
The problem concerns an electrical connection in the wiring of the electric power steering pump, which, in rare cases, could cause flammable materials to overheat and potentially fire the vehicle, the company said.

About 1,08 million of the affected vehicles are in the United States, with 106,000 in Canada, 23,000 in Mexico, and about 125,000 in other global markets.

Stellantis plans to inspect and potentially repair or replace its wiring or power steering electric pump.

The automaker said it has not yet finalized the repair, but expects it to be available by July.

Once the repair is ready, affected owners will be notified by mail and will receive instructions on how to schedule repairs at their local dealership.

Depending on the vehicle, repairs may include checking and replacing the wiring harness and power steering pump.

The latest recall comes on top of a series of safety issues that have affected Jeep models in recent years.

In late May, Stellantis recalled 419,035 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L SUVs due to a software flaw that could delay the deployment of side airbags during a crash, increasing the risk of injury, according to The Detroit News.
