LIMASSOL - THE MAYOR AND MUNICIPAL COUNCIL SEE PUBLIC WORKS AFTER THE REACTIONS TO THE ''PEGS'' AND BICYCLE ROUTES - Filenews 11/6

The Department of Public Works wishes to inform the public about the projects implemented in the framework of the Limassol Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) and concern, among other things, the creation of new cycling infrastructure.

In previous years, extensive consultations and briefings have taken place with the public, organized groups, professional bodies and the competent authorities of Limassol. These procedures were a key pillar of the planning, with the aim of promoting safe, functional and modern transportation solutions for all citizens.

The Department understands that some of the recent interventions, such as the installation of plastic columns to separate bicycle lanes or the implementation of shared spaces, have caused reactions and concern. Comments regarding aesthetics, everyday functionality and public information are taken seriously.

Following the letter from the Mayor of Limassol, the Department of Public Works remains fully ready to work closely with the Mayor and the City Council to ensure that the final solutions meet both the operational requirements of safety and mobility as well as the aesthetic quality required by citizens. For this purpose, and following the Minister's instructions, a meeting will be arranged in the next few days.

At the same time, the Department will immediately proceed with a targeted information campaign, in order to present in detail the details of the project, the benefits of the new infrastructure and the way in which they contribute to the improvement of the quality of life and road safety.

The Department of Public Works remains committed to creating a modern, safe and sustainable transportation system for all residents and visitors of Limassol.
