All the slaughters of animals pending throughout Cyprus, due to foot-and-mouth disease, have been completed, according to the plan that had been announced. According to an announcement by the Ministry of Agriculture, about 6.650 animals were killed in the provinces of Nicosia, Limassol and Larnaca, with the goal to be achieved within two days.
"To achieve this goal, officials of the Veterinary Services worked non-stop, day and night, making superhuman efforts under particularly difficult conditions. Characteristically, in the province of Larnaca, the work in some units continued until today at 4 in the morning", it is noted
According to the Ministry, "the assistance of the Cyprus Police and the National Guard was decisive, which allowed the rapid and effective implementation of the operational planning.
The cooperation of all those involved is the strongest tool for eradicating the disease, protecting the livestock sector and ensuring the country's food security."
