The Department of Forests signed a contract on June 15, 2026 with the successful contractor for the construction and installation of 75 animal release ramps in artificial lakes. An important step for the protection of animals trapped in artificial lakes in Cyprus

According to the announcement of the Department of Forests, the responsibility for monitoring and implementing the project is assumed by them, and it is something that is expected to be completed within the next two months.

This action is considered extremely important, as incidents of both wild and stray animals being trapped in artificial lakes are recorded every year. In several cases, the animals are unable to get out of the steep or slippery banks, resulting in exhaustion or even drowning.

The installation of 75 ramps creates safe escape routes, contributing substantially to the reduction of animal losses and the strengthening of the protection of the fauna and biodiversity of our country. While as stated in the announcement, the value of the project amounts to €17,000.

The Department of Forests pointed out that it is a practical and targeted intervention that transforms artificial lakes into safer spaces for all animals that may be found in them.
