Under the microscope of the Larnaca Police are messages posted on the internet and allegedly related to the complaint for the kidnapping of 22-year-old Sahruar Ahmed Emon, a student from Bangladesh whose traces have been lost since June 12. In them, some people are said to be asking for a ransom from a person asking him to give €10.000 on Sunday and €25.000 on Monday. In fact, at the end they tell the person who receives the message that "if you tell anyone you will never see their face again".

The information from the Police states that the authenticity of the messages is being examined, while at the same time the search for the missing student continues. "The messages that saw the light of day are in the possession and knowledge of the Police from the first moment and their authenticity is being examined.

The Police also possess other multimedia files which were either located, delivered or received, the authenticity of which is also being investigated", says the Police, noting that in the context of the examinations, all technological tools are used to locate the 22-year-old or places where he was or visited from the moment he left his place of residence.

The Police also states that from the first moment searches were carried out in various places and statements were identified and taken from persons who seem to have come into contact with him, however the examinations to locate other persons continue, given that the 22-year-old has been in Cyprus for a short period of time. There was also communication with the father of the 22-year-old, who lives abroad, as well as with the authorities of this country.

It is noted that on June 12, according to what the Police had reported in a relevant message, unknown persons contacted the father of the 22-year-old and reported that they kidnapped him and that they were asking for a ransom. Since then there has been no communication, with the Police making repeated appeals to receive information that may lead to his identification.

The young man at 6:30 in the afternoon of June 12, left the house where he lives with other people in Oroklini and said that he would head to a factory in the Kofinos area, where he would work for the first day. According to information, the Police located the last location of his mobile phone in Kofinou, which was searched without being located. It is estimated that, because he does not have a means of transport, the young man arrived in the area by bus. The routes of the buses are under the microscope and closed monitoring circuits are being sought, in order to see if his movements were recorded.

In the evening of the same day, the 22-year-old sent a message with a specific location to a friend via a mobile phone application, without any further communication.

The Police ask any person who knows anything that can help locate them to contact the Larnaca Police Department at 24804096 or 24804060 numbers or the Citizen's Line at 1460 or the nearest Police Station.

A serious case, related to private life and social media, is being investigated by the occupation authorities and concerns a Greek Cypriot woman who lives and works in the free areas.

The 39-year-old was arrested a few days ago at the Pergamon roadblock, while she was trying to cross into the occupied territories. The so-called police officers of the pseudo-state, who are manning the checkpoint, found that this woman has been wanted since last August after a complaint by a Turkish Cypriot in the occupied territories for violation of privacy privacy.

Information from filenews states that the case goes back four years, when the 39-year-old allegedly had a relationship with the complainant's husband, also a Turkish Cypriot, who reside permanently in the occupied areas. It seems that at some stage their relationship broke down and according to what is reported by the information that the bi-communal office had on crime, the 39-year-old allegedly sent to the social media account of the Turkish Cypriot wife, photographic material and videos that she had taken with him in the occupied territories.

The Turkish Cypriot filed a complaint with the "police" on 04/08/2025 about this incident, as a result of which the authorities of the pseudo-state issued an arrest warrant against her. Almost a year later, on June 6, 2026, it became possible to arrest the 39-year-old when she tried to cross into the occupied territories.

According to the information of the Bicommunal Committee, the arrested woman was brought before a pseudo-court which issued a three-day detention order against her, in order to examine her telephone device. The case remains pending, while the bi-communal crime office is constantly updated on developments.

He is an 85-year-old Greek Cypriot, she is almost half his year old from Sri Lanka. They had a wedding which was eventually judged to be virtual. The husband stated that they never lived together, that he married her to take care of him and that she visits him once a week or even every 15 days.

The declaration of the marriage as fictitious reached the Administrative Court after an appeal by the wife, who insisted that the marriage was genuine and requested a residence permit as the wife of a Cypriot citizen.

The Court ruled that the administration acted completely lawfully and unjustifiably and that the marriage was rightly judged to be fictitious, since the decision was based on six factors. The applicant, a Sri Lankan national, arrived in the Republic on 2/12/2012 with an entry permit, in order to work as a domestic worker. After changing four employers, she continued to reside in the Republic until 21/12/2018, with a temporary residence permit. On 17/4/2019 she submitted an application for granting international protection status, which she withdrew on 28/1/2020, since in the meantime she had a civil marriage with the Cypriot citizen A.M. Following this, the applicant was issued a residence permit as the wife of a Cypriot citizen.

On 3/11/2020, a proposal was submitted to check the authenticity of the applicant's marriage with the Cypriot, an audit that took place on 16/2/2021 at the address declared by the couple. During the search, the Cypriot was identified, but not the applicant, who stated that she visits him once a week or every fifteen days, since she lives with her sister and cousin.

On the day of the inspection, the Cypriot, then aged 85, showed the members some women's clothing that he claimed belonged to the applicant. In a personal interview that the couple was called, on 26/3/2021, the Cypriot husband stated that they never lived together, that they have absolutely no relationship and that he married her to help him once a week at home. For her part, the applicant stated that they are in a relationship and that they have been living together since 2018. It is noted that the applicant submitted on 6/10/2021, an application for the renewal of her residence permit as the wife of a Cypriot citizen.

The Court, after hearing both sides, disagreed with the applicant's suggestions regarding the absence of reasoning in the decision to declare the marriage as fictitious. As mentioned, the decision records six elements that, precisely, tend to sufficiently demonstrate that their marriage was fictitious. As they emerge from the report of the YAM, during the on-site visit to the couple's stated address, but also from the personal interviews that took place, the applicant and the Cypriot did not live under the same roof.

The period of their acquaintance, the number and frequency of their meetings before the marriage was minimal, there was a lack of appropriate contribution to dealing with their obligations arising from the marriage.

Finally, the statements of both regarding their personal information or in relation to other important personal information were contradictory. In the end, the appeal was rejected with costs of €1,900 at the expense of the domestic worker.
