
The presence and action of the Police last night was intense, throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order and increasing the sense of security of the public.
As a result of the preventive police operations, 13 persons were arrested for various offenses, such as theft, possession of burglary tools, illegal stay in the Republic, traffic violations, drunkenness, causing concern, assault on a police officer, possession of a device for launching harmful gases, driving under the influence of alcohol, etc.
As part of these operations, during the night, 699 drivers and 264 passengers were stopped and checked. At the same time, 47 inspections were carried out in premises with the aim of dealing with phenomena of delinquency, during which seven complaints emerged.
During traffic checks carried out, 303 complaints were made, concerning various traffic violations, while 24 investigated cases of traffic violations also emerged.
Of the complaints made, 96 complaints from drivers for exceeding the speed limit stand out, while as part of the police examinations, 21 vehicles were detained. 411 alcohol tests were carried out, from which 30 complaints emerged, while one driver tested positive in a preliminary drug test.
Policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue daily, with an increased/enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, with the aim of increasing the sense of security of citizens/protecting citizens and ensuring public order.

The Limassol Police Department is investigating a case of theft by an official, extortion of money by false representations and money laundering, offenses which were allegedly committed between the years 2023 – 2026 in Limassol.
According to a complaint filed by a company director, the 39-year-old former manager of the company, allegedly appropriated a sum of money amounting to €610,215 during the above period.
In addition, the 39-year-old in question, while he had already been dismissed from his position, allegedly signed on behalf of the company for the customs clearance of a lifting machine, without having the relevant authorization.
An arrest warrant was issued against him and he was arrested yesterday to facilitate investigations.

The Police arrested a 35-year-old man today, to facilitate investigations into an investigated theft case, committed in Ayia Napa, between January and June 2026.
Specifically, on June 5, 2026, a 58-year-old man reported to the Police that during the above period, 22 aluminium beams, owned by his business, were stolen from an open space in Ayia Napa, the total value of which is estimated at €40,000.
From the Police examinations, testimony was obtained against a 35-year-old man, on the basis of which a court warrant was issued for his arrest. The 35-year-old was arrested yesterday morning and taken into custody, while today he is expected to appear before the Famagusta District Court for the issuance of a detention order.
The Famagusta Police Department is investigating the case.

On 13/6/2026, officials of the Customs Department at Paphos Airport, after evaluating information, located 2 Spanish passengers before their departure to Manchester, United Kingdom, with their luggage containing large quantities of roll-your-own tobacco, whose packages did not bear the marking for the harmful nature of smoking in Greek and Turkish, but neither did the security feature and the unique traceability code, indications that they were duty-free.
Specifically, a total of 469 packages of 50g of tobacco were found in the luggage of the first passenger (total weight 23.45Kg). The passenger was arrested for flagrante delicto, while the luggage and its contents were confiscated. He was later released after his proposal for an out-of-court settlement of the offenses with the payment of €8,000 was accepted.

Also yesterday, on 13/6/2026, officials of the Customs Department at the Agios Dometios Crossing Point, during the usual vehicle checks, noticed a couple with a stroller and an infant trying to cross on foot towards the free areas. During the check they carried out on the bags and the stroller, they found to their surprise that they were full of cigarette packets, which did not bear the marking for the harmful of smoking in the Greek and Turkish languages, nor the safety feature and the unique traceability code, indications that they were duty-free. Specifically, 200 packs of 20 cigarettes each (20 dismantled boxes) were found. The Turkish Cypriot transporter with a British passport was arrested for flagrante delicto, while the luggage and its contents were confiscated. He was later released, after his proposal for an out-of-court settlement of the offenses with the payment of €1,200 was accepted.
