A large amount of money was in the possession of a foreigner who was arrested in Paphos.

The foreigner from Cameroon who was illegally residing on the territory of the republic was arrested by members of the police in the village of Miliou.

He was in possession of a sum of money of more than €6,500 and when asked by the members of the force as to the origin of the money, he replied that the money was collected by him and some of his compatriots in order to make it available to their compatriots who live in Cyprus and were facing difficulties.

The foreigner is expected to be deported.

The presence and action of the Police last night was intense, throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order and increasing the sense of security of the public.

As a result of the preventive policing operations, seven persons were arrested for various offenses, such as, among others, possession of drugs, possession of offensive instruments, and illegal stay on the territory of the Republic.

As part of these operations, during the night, 345 vehicles were stopped for inspection and 146 persons on board were checked. At the same time, 31 inspections of premises were carried out, with the aim of dealing with phenomena of delinquency, from which three complaints emerged.

During traffic inspections carried out, 170 complaints were made, concerning various traffic violations, while seven investigated cases of traffic violations also emerged. As part of the police examinations, six vehicles were detained.

Of the complaints made about traffic violations, 71 concerned complaints about exceeding the speed limit. Also, 69 checks were carried out for driving under the influence of alcohol, during which three vehicle drivers were reported, while one case of driving under the influence of drugs also emerged, after a positive preliminary drug test.

Policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue daily, with an enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, with the aim of protecting citizens and ensuring public order.

As part of the investigation of a case of locating and confiscating drugs and firearms, the Police proceeded to arrest two more persons.

This is a 45-year-old man, who appeared last Saturday before the Nicosia District Court, which issued a detention order for him for a period of five days.

The arrest and detention of the 45-year-old was preceded by a search by members of YKAN in his home, where a small amount of cannabis, a scale with traces of white matter, two mobile phones, as well as other evidence were found.

Also, the members of YKAN proceeded yesterday by virtue of a court warrant to arrest a 31-year-old man, to facilitate the investigations. In a search of his residence, a mobile phone, a laptop, a phone card and a portable data storage unit were found and received as evidence.

The 31-year-old was brought before the Nicosia District Court today, where he was remanded in custody for 8 days.

The Police are investigating a new case of telephone fraud and extraction of a large amount of money from a bank account, following a complaint submitted today to the Limassol Police Department.

According to the complaint, a 76-year-old woman received a phone call today, from an unknown man, who spoke in English and introduced himself as the director of a payment service. The perpetrator, through false pretexts regarding the security of the complainant's bank account, persuaded her to follow a link sent via a phone message to her mobile phone and extracted the amount of €42.500 from her bank account.

The Police calls on the public to be especially careful when receiving phone calls from unknown persons.

It is reminded that no organization will ask for banking or personal information or codes via phone calls or message.

At the same time, it is recommended not to open links sent via messages, SMS or e-mail from strangers. Particular emphasis is placed on informing older relatives and relatives, as these groups are often the target of fraudsters who attempt to extort money or personal information through telephone scams and other deceptive practices.

A 54-year-old woman was the victim of theft on Saturday night in Paphos, while she was walking on a main street of the city.

According to the Police, around 21:30, while the 54-year-old was walking with a relative, an unknown man approached her, grabbed her bag and fled.

The woman, according to the Police, was not injured, with the authorities conducting investigations to locate the perpetrator.

As part of the investigation of a case of arson of a betting agency that took place yesterday in the early hours of the morning in Limassol, the Police proceeded to arrest two persons, aged 20, by virtue of a court warrant to facilitate investigations.

The fire broke out around 2.50 a.m. today in a betting agency, owned by a 40-year-old man. The fire destroyed the glass showcase and damaged the masonry of the agency. The fire was extinguished by neighbours, before it spread inside the agency.

After examinations carried out, it was found that the fire was set maliciously using flammable material and testimony was obtained against the two suspects.

Arrest warrants were issued against them, under which they were arrested and taken into custody to facilitate investigations.

UPDATE - The developments in the case of the arson of a betting agency in Germasogeia that took place yesterday in the early hours of the morning are rapid, as one of the two suspects allegedly confessed to his participation and named the person who gave them the instructions. The interest also turns to the fact that the 40-year-old owner of the agency had also expressed suspicions against a person, citing chronic differences with him.

The 20-year-old suspect, at the same time, described in detail their modus operandi and the route they followed, while stating that all their actions were done at the suggestion of a third party.

According to his testimony, the details of this person are already in the possession of the Police, who are expected to issue an arrest warrant against him.

It is worth noting that the 40-year-old owner of the agency also expressed suspicions against a specific person, with whom, as he mentioned, he maintains chronic differences.

The two suspects were brought before the Limassol District Court today for the issuance of a detention order for them for a period of eight days. The request of the Police was accepted and the Court ordered their detention.

It is recalled that these are two 20-year-olds from Syria, who were arrested yesterday on suspicion of the arson of a betting agency in Germasogeia, committed in the early morning hours of June 1.

According to the Police's examinations, a vehicle stopped outside the agency and the passenger disembarked from it, who was holding a stone and a jerry can. He then headed on foot to the property and, after throwing the stone into the glass showcase, set fire, as a result of which it shattered. He then returned to the vehicle and together with the driver left the tent.

According to the 40-year-old owner, the damage caused amounts to about 2.000 euros, while there is no insurance coverage. He expressed suspicions against a person with whom he has chronic differences.

As part of the investigation of the case, the Police received information from a reliable informant, who in the past provided information that was verified. According to the information, the two suspects were involved in the arson, who were riding in a white Chevrolet Captiva vehicle, which had a reduced lighting intensity at the left front light.

As reported, the driver of the vehicle was the first suspect and the second passenger.

According to the same information, the vehicle departed from Nicosia around 21:30 on May 31 to Limassol and returned in the early hours of June 1, after committing the arson. The suspects then entered a residence in the Lakatamia area.

The analysis of the CCTV revealed that the clothes and shoes worn by the perpetrator of the arson are similar to those worn by one of the two persons recorded entering the residence in question.

On June 1, 2026 at 13:40, this vehicle was located and stopped by members of the Police in Nicosia, after discreet surveillance. It was found that the driver was the first suspect and the second passenger.

The vehicle was taken to the Nicosia Police Department along with the occupants for further examinations. During their oral interrogation, the suspects admitted that they were in Limassol on May 31.

It is noted that the second suspect was wearing black Adidas brand sneakers with a white sole, which appear to be completely similar to those recorded by the closed circuit surveillance. The shoes were received as evidence.

Based on the evidence, arrest warrants were issued against the two suspects, pursuant to which they were arrested on June 1, 2026.

In a subsequent search, by virtue of a court warrant, various items of clothing similar to those worn by the perpetrators, hoods, used disposable gloves, plastic container cap and other items were found in the vehicle and received as evidence, which are expected to undergo scientific examinations.

The driver's and passenger's mats were also taken as evidence, as the smell of flammable matter emanated from them.

The second suspect denied any involvement in the case, making various allegations, while a written investigative testimony is expected to be received from him.

On the contrary, the first suspect, in an investigative statement he gave with the help of an interpreter, admitted to committing the offenses, naming the second suspect as his accomplice. At the same time, he described in detail their mode of action and stated that they were acting on the orders of a third person, whose details are already in the possession of the Police.

To complete the investigation of the case, 42 more testimonies are expected to be taken, while investigations continue to identify other persons who may be involved in the case.

Around 1.30 p.m. yesterday, a fire broke out on a motorcycle, which was in an open area, in the province of Nicosia.

The fire was extinguished by members of the Fire Service. Subsequent examinations revealed that the fire was maliciously set using flammable material.

Further examinations revealed that the motorcycle belongs to a company and had been reported to the Police as stolen, on May 22, 2026.

The Police arrested a 31-year-old man on Sunday, to facilitate investigations into investigated cases of burglary and theft.

Specifically, testimony emerged against the 31-year-old, in the context of the investigation of a case of theft from a residence and two burglaries of houses, committed in the province of Limassol, on the morning of May 26, 2026. An arrest warrant was issued against him, under which he was arrested and taken into custody.

Yesterday morning he was brought before the Limassol District Court, which issued an eight-day detention order.

The Pissouri Police Station is investigating the case.
