The Paphos District Court referred the 41-year-old woman and the 19-year-old man who were arrested in an episodic manner in mid-April as suspects of a series of criminal acts in Paphos to a trial before the Criminal Court that will meet today in Paphos. The two remain in custody by court decision to this day.
Cases related to conspiracy to commit a felony, arson of vehicles and premises, attempted arson and offenses related to money laundering are being investigated against the two.
The arrest of the two took place in an episodic manner and after a chase that unfolded from Paphos to Nicosia. The 41-year-old and the 19-year-old were spotted by a police patrol in mid-April approaching a property in the area of Paphos, in possession of a bottle and an object that looked like a bat. When they realized the presence of the Police, they returned to the vehicle in which they arrived at the scene and, trying to escape police control, collided with official cars, driving in a dangerous way.
The suspects then managed to enter the Paphos - Limassol highway and despite the chase they temporarily escaped arrest. The vehicle, which was found to have fake registration numbers, was later found outside a house in a village in Nicosia. The 41-year-old was located inside the house and made allegations that are being investigated, while a little later the 19-year-old was also found walking on a dirt road in the same area. According to the Police, the young man attacked a police officer, hitting him in the face, as a result of which he was arrested for a flagrante delicto.
Both were arrested and taken into custody, with authorities considering them suspects in at least four investigated cases, two arsons in Paphos, one attempted arson also in Paphos and another arson in Larnaca.
