A 31-year-old man was taken into custody, who was arrested yesterday in the province of Paphos for self-inflicted offenses involving negligent driving, dangerous and reckless driving, causing road collisions and leaving tents, as well as driving without a driver's license and without a safety certificate.

According to the data under examination, around 11:30 a.m., a car driver, while moving on Griva Digeni Avenue in Paphos, stopped at some point, moved in reverse, collided slightly with a vehicle he was following and then left the scene.

A member of the Police who was in the area noticed the incident and tried to stop the vehicle. However, the driver did not comply with the instructions and developed speed, driving dangerously and recklessly on city streets.

While trying to escape, he collided with other vehicles, causing material damage. Later, he abandoned his vehicle and tried to escape on foot.

He was eventually stopped and arrested by members of the Police. During the incident, a warning shot was fired in the air.

From the examinations that followed, it was found that he is a 31-year-old man, who resides illegally in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.

The Department of Minor Offenses and the Paphos Traffic Police continue the examinations.

The Police are investigating a case of attempted murder and other serious crimes, with the victims being two women aged 38 and 58.  

The two women were found around 4:50 yesterday afternoon, injured, in an apartment in Nicosia. They were taken to Nicosia General Hospital, where they are being treated in stable condition. 

As part of the investigation of the case, the Police are looking for a 35-year-old man, whose details and photo have been made public. 

The TAE of Nicosia continues the examinations.

Ten arrests were made last night by the Police as part of targeted preventive operations.

As a result of the preventive police operations, 10 persons were arrested for offenses such as illegal possession of drugs, illegal stay in the Republic of Cyprus, begging, etc.

As part of these operations, during the night, 728 drivers and 305 passengers were stopped and checked. At the same time, 64 inspections of premises were carried out, with the aim of dealing with phenomena of delinquency, where nine complaints emerged.

During traffic checks carried out, 227 complaints were made, concerning various traffic violations, while 13 investigated cases of traffic violations also emerged.

Of the complaints made, 105 complaints from drivers for exceeding the speed limit stand out, while as part of the police examinations, 15 vehicles were detained.

314 alcohol tests were carried out, where 19 complaints emerged, while two drivers were found positive in preliminary drug tests.

Policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue daily, with an increased/enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, with the aim of increasing the sense of security of citizens/protecting citizens and ensuring public order.

Members of the Anti-Drug Service arrested a 22-year-old man yesterday, in connection with a case involving a quantity of dried poppy bulbs, with a gross weight of six kilograms and 50 grams.

The above quantity was found in postal parcels and confiscated by YKAN, in the province of Famagusta.

Two other persons, men aged 35 and 30, were arrested on 25/06/2026 for the same case.

The three suspects were brought before the Famagusta District Court yesterday, which issued a seven-day detention order for police examinations.
