The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, received a delegation of ExxonMobil and Qatar Energy at the Presidential Palace, expressing satisfaction with today's announcements and the prospects for further activity in the Cypriot EEZ.
The President described the developments as "clear proof and a vote of confidence" in the prospects of the EEZ of Cyprus, but also in the role of the Eastern Mediterranean as a possible energy corridor to Europe.
"We look forward to even more positive announcements in the near future," he said, adding that discussions are underway for more blocks and that there may be relevant announcements soon.
Mr. Christodoulides noted that the presence of the two energy companies in the Cypriot EEZ is one of the most important developments for Cyprus, praising their work, professionalism and position in the energy sector.
For his part, ExxonMobil Vice President John Ardill said that the company's journey in Cyprus since 2017 has been long, underlining that results are never taken for granted.
As he said, the discovery of the two natural gas deposits is an important development for Cyprus, while the next challenge is their development. He added that the project has been particularly successful for everyone involved
