CHANGES TO THE MOTORCYCLE DRIVING LICENCES FOR PROVISIONAL LICENCE HOLDERS FROM 1 JULY - Filenews 19/6

From July 1, 2026, changes to driving with a provisional driving license come into force for all motorcycle categories.

Specifically, driving on a road or public place will only be allowed in the following cases:

-for training purposes, under the supervision of a licensed driving instructor, who is riding in another vehicle of the same category,
-during an examination for a certificate of competency,
-in the context of an authorized driving of a training vehicle of the Police, the Fire Brigade or the National Guard.

In all the above cases, drivers must carry the required protective equipment.

The changes are implemented in accordance with the Driving License Law L. 94(I)/2001, while the required protective equipment is specified in article 16 of the Law.

In addition, as of July 1, 2026, the provisional driver's license for all vehicles is valid for a period of two years.

The Department of Road Transport invites provisional driver's license holders who wish to obtain a regular driver's license to arrange their examination in time.
