The special plan for the interconnection of all development and landscaping projects carried out in the villages of Akamas, in order to facilitate unified visitation to the area, is estimated to bring record visits to the communities of the peninsula this summer. The plan announced by President Christodoulides at the beginning of 2024 has been implemented since last summer and especially this year the results are already visible to a very increased extent.
For the first time in the history of the peninsula, local officials point out, since last month we have seen tourists coming into the communities on a massive scale and not in individual groups instead of just crossing them to go to the beaches and natural monuments of Akamas.
Speaking to "F", the Deputy Mayor of Akamas of the Ineia district, Yiangos Tsivikos, observed that the commitment of President Christodoulidis to prepare and implement this plan in a way that is beneficial to the communities is being implemented, since the first organized visits are already a fact. The incentive plan was announced by the President of the Republic, inaugurating three new projects in the community of Ineia, the Aphrodite thematic route, the Turtle Museum and the regeneration of the core of the community, he said. Nikos Christodoulidis stressed that through this plan, incentives will be given so that all these projects that have been carried out in the communities of Akamas in recent months attract visitors, Mr. Tsivikos pointed out.
As the President of the Republic stressed when announcing the implementation of this plan, this does not constitute preferential treatment of the communities of the peninsula, since everyone recognizes that all these years the residents of the villages of Akamas cannot use their properties, as the people of all other areas of Cyprus can do. The importance of Akamas goes beyond the narrow boundaries of the region and gives our efforts a national scope, Nikos Christodoulidis had characteristically said.
Regarding the projects inaugurated by President Christodoulidis, the Deputy Mayor of Akamas stressed that these are projects that create significant development opportunities for the people of the area. Everyone should realize, he said, that the inhabitants of the villages are the ones who are most interested in Akamas and the environment, because it is this environment that proves the uniqueness of their area and the advantages it gives them.
