WARNING ABOUT A NEW FRAUD WITH FAKE GHS SMS - ''THEY MISINFORM AND EXTRACT SUMS OF MONEY''

WARNING ABOUT A NEW FRAUD WITH FAKE GHS SMS - ''THEY MISINFORM AND EXTRACT SUMS OF MONEY'' - Filenews 7/5

The Health Insurance Organization and the Cyprus Police warn GHS beneficiaries about new incidents of sending false and malicious text messages to mobile phones, which appear to come from the GHS, using the name GESY.

The warning was issued on the occasion of a new case of online fraud investigated by the Police and concerns the theft of a sum of money by perpetrators, who send misleading SMS with the aim of extracting money from citizens' bank accounts.

According to the HIO and the Police, the false messages mislead the recipient that they must follow a specific electronic link, supposedly to correct personal information. It is emphasized that the HIO and the GHS have nothing to do with these messages.

Particular caution is recommended as, in several cases, malicious SMS appear under legitimate messages that have already been sent by the GHS to the beneficiaries, which can make them appear more convincing.

The HIO emphasizes that it will never ask for passwords, login details, payment details or any other personal data via text message. It also does not ask citizens to make a financial transaction through electronic links.

The HIO and the Police call on the public to be especially careful and to trust only announcements and posts published by the official information channels of the Organization.

In case of receiving such a message, citizens are asked not to open the link and delete the message immediately.
