Bank of Cyprus' SupportCY is further enhancing its operational capabilities by deploying drones for fire prevention and early detection purposes, in collaboration with the Fire Service, according to a Bank of Cyprus announcement.
He notes that the use of drones is part of a broader framework of operational readiness and risk management, with the aim of continuous surveillance of vulnerable areas, the immediate identification of fire outbreaks and the timely notification of the competent authorities.
"Through planned and coordinated patrols, drones can identify fire outbreaks and inform immediately, achieving maximum possible readiness. At the beginning of 2026, the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (Drones) Unit of the Bank of Cyprus' SupportCY Volunteer Corps was created, which has modern drones, experienced and certified operators, as well as the ability to act and transfer images throughout Cyprus," he adds.
He states, at the same time, that the SupportCY Volunteer Corps is completing in the coming days the training of new and existing volunteers in matters of fire prevention, response and recovery, in cooperation with the competent state services and in particular with the Fire Service.
As he states, four local and two pan-Cypriot preparedness exercises have already been carried out, with the participation of all the Units of the Volunteer Corps, as well as the newly established Firefighting Helicopter Support Unit, with the use of its own specialized inflatable tanks for refuelling the firefighting helicopters.
The Head of SupportCY, Marios Stavrou, stated that in anticipation of a difficult year, at SupportCY of the Bank of Cyprus they proceeded to strengthen their operational capability throughout Cyprus, always following safety standards and European quality standards, for the protective equipment and equipment of the team.
"In addition, the recent creation of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (Drones) Unit aims to further strengthen prevention efforts, in cooperation with the Fire Service. Cooperation between state services, volunteers, local authorities, as well as all agencies, is the key to being able to protect our place from fires," he concluded.
