Among the best-paid state officials are MPs, the speaker of the Parliament and religious representatives, since they receive a very good basic salary, heaps of allowances and pension contributions.
According to the data of the General Accounting Office, the speaker of the Parliament receives a gross monthly salary of €8,715, without allowances. With the addition of the allowances, the total amount amounts to €11,456. After deductions for the pension/gratuity plan and taxation, the net monthly salary is approximately €7,461.
For MPs and religious representatives, the gross monthly salary is €7,911. After the corresponding deductions and the 3% contribution for the pension/gratuity plan, the net monthly salary is approximately €5,466.
On an annual basis, the gross salary of a Member of Parliament or a religious representative, excluding allowances, amounts to €56,310. With the addition of allowances and calculation in 13 months, the gross annual salary reaches €99,612.
The allowances include a representation allowance of €20,503, a representation allowance of €5,804 and a secretarial services allowance of €12,302. The annual deductions before income tax amount to €11,944, while the net annual salary after income tax is €68,684.
Separately, a travel allowance of €7,791 is recorded.
The issue of the remuneration of MPs and religious representatives is back in the spotlight against the backdrop of yesterday's parliamentary elections and the formation of the new House of Representatives.
It is noted that according to the Constitution, the provisions of which regulate the transitional period from the self-dissolution of parliament until the elections, the payment of salaries to the outgoing MPs ends with the swearing-in of the new ones, at which point the payment of salaries to the newly elected begins.
