PROTECTING VULNERABLE ROAD USERS - EUROPEAN ROADPOL COMPAIGN ''TWO-WHEELERS'' 1-7 JUNE

PROTECTING VULNERABLE ROAD USERS - EUROPEAN ROADPOL COMPAIGN ''TWO-WHEELERS'' 1-7 JUNE

Protecting vulnerable road users

Motorcyclists, cyclists and users of personal mobility devices (e-scooters) are among the most vulnerable road users, as, unlike passengers in other vehicles, they are more exposed to serious injuries or even death in the event of a road collision. Their safety on the road is not their sole responsibility, but a collective obligation of all road users.

The European ROADPOL campaign “Two – Wheelers” (1 – 7/6/2026) aims to enhance road safety for two-wheeler users, through prevention, information, awareness-raising and targeted policing actions. The main objective of the campaign is to reduce serious and fatal road collisions involving cyclists, to foster a culture of responsible road behaviour and to strengthen mutual respect among all road users.

As part of the campaign, police authorities across Europe are implementing coordinated actions that include information campaigns, road law enforcement, prevention actions and increased road presence, with an emphasis on protecting vulnerable road users.

The Cyprus Police, actively participating in the ROADPOL “Two – Wheelers” campaign, is proceeding with targeted information and prevention actions, as well as increased traffic controls to ensure compliance with the legislation concerning two-wheeler users and the behaviour of other drivers towards them. At the same time, it strengthens its presence on the road network, not only for the purpose of control, but mainly for prevention, guidance and protection.

The use of protective equipment, proper vehicle maintenance, compliance with traffic rules and responsible behaviour are basic requirements for the safety of cyclists themselves. At the same time, drivers of other vehicles are called upon to exercise increased caution, carefully check blind spots, maintain safe distances and recognize that cyclists are more exposed to the dangers of the road. The protection of vulnerable road users requires shared responsibility, mutual respect and correct choices from everyone. Because every journey must be completed safely
