Bulldozers, special road construction machinery, floodlights at full intensity and crews of the Municipality of Paphos working feverishly, is the image that the people of Paphos and foreign visitors who move on the road network of the municipal area have encountered in recent nights. This unusual activity in the evening hours is the implementation in practice of the decision of the municipal authority for the fundamental change and upgrading of the city's road network, which in the best case was at an unsatisfactory level in the previous period: Asphalt roads that had not been maintained for years, potholes in many roads, even in the primary road network and an image that does not honor the "capital" of tourist traffic on the island.

The Municipality of Paphos wanted to change this situation and is doing so in a drastic way. As the Mayor of Paphos, Angelos Onisiforou, emphasizes to "F", the municipal authority has decided to immediately implement a wide program of changes in the city's streets, which has already been in full swing in the last week. This work is carried out under the sole responsibility and expense of the Municipality of Paphos, he clarifies, and with the aim of literally changing each problem area day by day. That is why, after all, the crews have turned night into day during this period. And those moving to central parts of Paphos are surprised to see "new" roads in the morning from those on which they were moving the night before.
The asphalt paving program of central and traffic-burdened roads, which have been presenting significant problems for years, with the road surface being in poor condition, started from Petridion Avenue, from the junction of Viofos to Embas Avenue. It is one of the most nodal points of the road network of the city of Paphos, serving the entire western area of Paphos, as well as communities in the north, such as Tala, but also the traffic flow to the city center and to the exit to the Paphos-Limassol highway.

In less than 24 hours from the start of the works, the asphalt has been removed, the new asphalt paving with new material has been completed and now the markings and signalling with paint on the asphalt are being done.
The works have already been transferred to other areas of the city, such as the traffic junction of the Paphos Hospital, in the Anavargos district and more to come.
Angelos Onisiforou stressed that the projects will continue covering all the problematic points of the city's road network, since these are projects of major importance and for its image, but mainly for the safe and damage-free conduct of traffic traffic.

The condition of the roads on which work will be carried out was in many cases terrible, he said, and the Municipality of Paphos responds to many and continuous complaints from citizens about an unacceptable image on main roads.

The goal of the Municipal Council is clear: to proceed, with consistency and daily work, to upgrade all the roads in Paphos by the end of the year, concluded the Mayor of Paphos. The improvement of the road network is not only a matter of the image of the city. It is a matter of safety, proper operation, quality of life and respect for the citizen. We continue dynamically, with substantial projects that make the daily lives of citizens better.
