The Police recommends special attention to the public, regarding a form of fraud, where the perpetrators ask for access to citizens' mobile phones or computers, with the aim of stealing money from their bank accounts.
The perpetrators communicate by phone with citizens allegedly on behalf of a financial transaction and payment platform and falsely claim that other persons have gained access to their mobile phones, as a result of which there is a risk that their money will be stolen from their bank accounts.
Specifically, they ask citizens to grant them remote access to their devices through a specific electronic application (application), so that they can take protection measures.
The main goal of the fraudsters is to gain access to citizens' bank accounts and extort money from them.
On the occasion of these new complaints, the Police recommends special attention to the public, pointing out that these calls are fraudulent.
It is emphasized that access to anyone, to electronic devices through a remote connection, as well as access to online accounts, must be avoided, while personal and bank account information must be protected and never disclosed to any persons.
Citizens are urged, as always, to carry out a check to verify any calls or messages they receive.
Such control and verification should be done through the official and notified communication channels of the organizations involved.
