MEASURE BY THE CIVIL DEFENCE FOR FIRE INCIDENTS - EVACUATION EXERCISES IN COMMUNITIES AND UPDATE OF THE 'POLYVIOS' PLAN - Filenews 5/5

In the context of strengthening preparedness and in order to properly prepare for the fire season, the Civil Defence Force is implementing a series of measures to strengthen resilience against fire incidents.

Evacuation exercises in Communities

For this purpose, during the month of May, evacuation exercises have been scheduled in Communities in all Districts, which are part of the wider planning of the State for the prevention and effective management of emergencies.

The aim is to improve operational coordination between the competent Services, to further strengthen cooperation with the Local Authorities, as well as to familiarize citizens with the evacuation process.

Citizens' input in these activities is crucial for effectively responding to emergencies and protecting human life, property, and the natural environment.

Update of the "Polyvios" Plan

In addition and for the purposes of proper preparation and better coordination, the Civil Defence Force has made visits to all Communities throughout Cyprus in the past months, where, in cooperation and consultation with the Community Councils, the "Polyvios" Plan was revised. For the updating of the Plan, the particularities of each Community were taken into account and the procedures were determined based on the needs, as indicated by the representatives of the Community Councils. The revisions of the Plan were completed by all the Communities in mid-April.

The purpose of the on-site meetings for the revision of the "Polyvios" Plan, as well as the evacuation exercises planned in the coming period, is the best possible preparation of the Local Authorities for a proper response to possible fire incidents in view of the fire season, as well as the coordination with the competent State Services.
