Golden Leaves Cyprus Crematorium Limited announces the securing of the official planning permit for the construction of the first crematorium in Cyprus.
This development is a historic step in the modernization of farewell services in Cyprus, ten years after the first introduction of the relevant cremation legislation in the Republic.
After securing the planning permit, the company is now moving on to the next stages of the project's development, with construction work expected to start in September 2026 and the project to be completed within approximately 18 months.
The crematorium will be erected in the area of Agia Varvara in Paphos and will be the first fully licensed cremation plant in the Republic of Cyprus.
With the opening of its operation, the facility will offer a modern, dignified and environmentally responsible alternative to traditional burial for families who choose incineration. At the same time, the project is expected to meet a long-standing need of both Cypriot citizens and the international community of residents of the island, many of whom until now have been forced to travel abroad for cremation services, facing significant expenses and complex administrative procedures. "We are very proud to have reached this important milestone and to bring a service that has been awaited for years to Cyprus," said Maureen Watt, Director of Angel Guardians Funeral Home and a spokesperson for GLCC. "Our goal is to offer families a dignified, modern and environmentally responsible choice, while providing facilities that meet the highest European standards of quality, care and environmental management."
