Around 7.50 yesterday afternoon, members of YKAN in collaboration with members of YDAP and OPE Paphos, stopped for inspection in Kato Paphos, a car driven by a 54-year-old man, having as passengers a 27-year-old, 20-year-old, 35-year-old and 16-year-old, all residents of Paphos.
Immediately after the vehicle was stopped, the 27-year-old tried to run away, however he was stopped by members of the Police nearby. In a subsequent search, a quantity of cocaine weighing approximately 83 grams was found in his possession, as well as the sum of €3,050 and €70. He was arrested for a flagrante delicto.
In a subsequent search, another 4 grams of cocaine, about 19 grams of magic mushroom, about 183 grams of cannabis, half a gram of methamphetamine, precision scales and various other items were found both in the car and in the possession of the other passengers, which were taken for further examination.
The presence and action of the Police last night was intense, throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order and increasing the sense of security of the public.
As a result of the preventive policing operations, twenty persons were arrested, for various offenses including fighting, carrying knives, malicious damage, attempted theft and illegal stay on the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.
During the night, 488 vehicles were stopped for inspection and 651 drivers and passengers were checked. At the same time, 57 inspections of premises were carried out, from which 10 complaints emerged.
During traffic checks carried out, 234 complaints were made for various traffic violations, of which 87 concern speeding. A total of 178 alcohol tests were carried out during which 17 drivers were found positive, while six drivers were found positive in a preliminary drug test. Also, as part of the police examinations, nine vehicles were detained.
Coordinated policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue daily, with an enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, in order to protect citizens and ensure public order.
The causes of the fierce clash that took place at midnight in a beer garden in the area of Ypsonas, between Greek Cypriots and a group of Indians, remain unknown so far.
The five suspects were brought before the Limassol District Court on Sunday morning for the issuance of a detention order. The Court approved the request of the Police and ordered their detention for six days.
Police examinations show that the two Greek Cypriots, while inside the pub, argued with Indian patrons of the premises, including two of the three Indian suspects.
During the first fight, those involved allegedly pulled out knives, while damage was also caused to the property, breaking bottles.
According to the examinations that followed, it was found that after the first incident, some of those involved allegedly called for reinforcements.
A few minutes later, another 10 to 15 people of Indian origin arrived at the pub, who were holding sticks and knives and were involved in the fight.
The Police are looking for 15 more persons allegedly involved in the case, while another 31 statements are expected to be taken.
Five people were injured in the fight, who were taken to the hospital.
The four, after receiving first aid, were discharged, while the fifth injured man, aged 29, was detained for treatment and further observation.

The Police in Nicosia are investigating an attack and robbery against a 32-year-old man, after an incident that took place around 8 pm yesterday, in an area in the city center.
According to the complainant, while he was in the area, two people allegedly attacked him. One of the perpetrators allegedly slightly injured him with a knife in the forehead, while the second beat him with a stick in his hand.
The perpetrators then allegedly stole his wallet and fled.

The Police in Limassol are investigating a case of injury to a 20-year-old foreigner, after he was allegedly attacked by three strangers while walking on Franklin Roosevelt Street.
According to what the 20-year-old reported, the attack was unprovoked and the perpetrators injured him with a knife.
The young man was taken to the hospital, where he is undergoing tests. He has chest and head injuries.

Moments of terror were experienced by a man, who was found holding on to the hood of a moving vehicle on the highway, after the driver allegedly tried to escape after a car accident.
According to RoadReportCY, the incident occurred around 12:40 noon last Wednesday, when a rental vehicle crashed into the back of another car.
After the collision, two people got out of the vehicle to talk to the driver. However, according to the same source, the driver reportedly refused to cooperate, repeating: "I can't wait, I have to leave."
The victim allegedly spotted a patrol car at a distance of about 80 meters, in the emergency lane, and tried to call for help. When the suspect realized that the Police were approaching, he allegedly accelerated sharply.
At that moment, the victim was standing in front of the car and was swept away when the vehicle started forward, causing him to end up on the hood.
The driver continued to move at high speed, while the victim was held by the vehicle and the Police began a chase. The man managed to hold on for almost two kilometers, until the vehicle slowed down to 30 to 40 kilometers per hour, near the Kalo Chorio roundabout.
The victim was then taken to Larnaca General Hospital, where he remained in the Emergency Department for six hours. He had multiple abrasions on his arms, legs, chest and back, as well as bruises and pain in the ribs.

A 22-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were arrested yesterday on the basis of court warrants and taken into custody to facilitate investigations into an investigated case of possession and circulation of counterfeit banknotes.
Specifically, as part of the investigation of the case, members of the Police located around 4 in the morning yesterday at a kiosk the 22-year-old who at the time bought products by paying with a €200 note with the cashier of the kiosk returning the change.
Immediately, the members of the Police revealed their status and from a preliminary check they carried out on the €200 banknote, suspicions were raised regarding its authenticity.
The 22-year-old was arrested for the self-inflicted crime of possession and circulation of counterfeit banknote.
Outside the kiosk, the 22-year-old's car was parked and the 19-year-old was sitting in the passenger seat. In a search carried out, 17 packs of cigarettes and the amount of €300 in €50 banknotes, which were received as evidence, were found inside the car.
A search followed at the house where they live in Nicosia, where the sum of €1,760 was found, including five€200 notes which at first glance appear to be counterfeit and were received as evidence. The 19-year-old was arrested for the self-inflicted crime of illegal possession of property after she was unable to give satisfactory explanations regarding the origin of the amount of money.
The two were then re-arrested on the basis of court warrants and taken into custody, while this morning they are expected to appear before the Nicosia District Court for the procedure for issuing detention orders.
