The British Bases Police (BB) is calling on the public to be extra vigilant ahead of the Holy Spirit weekend, announcing increased patrols on the streets.
Specifically, in a press release, the British Bases Police reminds bathers and drivers to be especially careful and aware of their surroundings in view of the busy three days with the public holiday on Monday.
With the increased traffic on the highways and the expected high turnout on the beaches, the BB Police warns of an increased risk of traffic collisions and theft incidents in the coastal areas.
The Deputy Assistant Police Director of Dhekelia, Deputy Police Officer Markos Petrou, stated that in both the eastern and western areas of the BB, patrols on the roads will be strengthened with the aim of preventing accidents.
Mr. Petrou also emphasized the importance of protecting personal belongings on the beaches.
Specifically, he stated that "at this time of the year, with the increased traffic on the beaches, the risk of opportunistic thefts also increases, either from vehicles or from personal belongings left unattended on the beach.
"Our advice, as in previous years, is for the public to avoid carrying valuables to the beach, as they are often left unattended when bathers are in the sea," he added.
