A new blow for the "Macedonia" airport but also for the economic life of Thessaloniki, as the courier company FedEx stops its operation.
The last day of operation will be May 31st, with all procedures to be transferred to "Eleftherios Venizelos".
This is done as there is a demand for economies of scale, since it has already made some investment in Markopoulo, Attica.
Yesterday, Wednesday, the news of FedEx's departure was announced during a meeting at the Chamber of Tradesmen, by the president of the Customs Brokers of Thessaloniki, George Kosmidis.
Of course, as the ERT report notes, those living in Jerusalem knew that from the end of April that the company would leave Thessaloniki.
This entails, first of all, delays in the delivery of parcels in Thessaloniki, as they will be cleared through customs in Athens and possibly an increase in transport prices.
It also means that customs brokers will lose their jobs as we had 100 customs clearances by FedEx at "Macedonia" airport every day, while as announced yesterday at the Chamber of Tradesmen, the 6 employees working in "Macedonia" on behalf of FedEx will be left without work.
The company will, however, maintain the warehouses it has in Pylaia, Thessaloniki.
However, this is the second blow in a short period of time to the "Macedonia" airport, after that of Ryanair, which also affects the economic life of the city, as there will be a degradation of the services offered by businesses.
