ACCEPT LGBTQI ''TAKE THE ROAD. YOUR OWN PROUD ROAD'' - HOW THE SLOGAN WAS CHOSEN AND WHEN CYPRUS PRIDE 2026 WILL TAKE PLACE

ACCEPT LGBTQI ''TAKE THE ROAD.  YOUR OWN PROUD ROAD'' - HOW THE SLOGAN WAS CHOSEN AND WHEN CYPRUS PRIDE 2026 WILL TAKE PLACE - Filenews 20/5

With the slogan "Take the road. Your own proud road", Accept LGBTQI is holding the Cyprus Pride 2026 march on June 6 at the Municipal Garden of Nicosia.

As clarified, the central message is the opposition to the expulsion and stigmatization experienced by LGBTQI people and emerged from phrases they face. The organization calls on people to take to the streets and walk for equality, freedom and visibility.

The full announcement:

Accept LGBTI Cyprus presents the new Cyprus Pride 2026 campaign with the central message "Take the road, your own proud road", turning a phrase often used to drive someone away, into a call for presence, visibility and assertiveness.

At a time when words like "natural order," "traditional values," and "child protection" are increasingly being used as tools of fear, exclusion, and misinformation, this year's Cyprus Pride responds in the most meaningful way: by taking to the streets. Not only as an act of protest, but as an act of existence, dignity and freedom. Because the road is not a place of exclusion. It is the place where we can see, meet, claim and move forward together. Our common road.

With this creative insight, this year's campaign reclaims familiar expressions of everyday life and redefines them through the eyes of the LGBTQI+ community. "Take the road" ceases to be an exhortation to flee and becomes an exhortation to freedom. From rejection to encouragement. From an exclusion mechanism, an invitation to visibility, presence and power.

Cyprus Pride 2026 is not just about the LGBTQI community. It is about every person who believes that human rights are not under discussion, cannot be postponed and cannot remain permanently "for later". In a country that constantly invokes European values, equality cannot remain under negotiation.

Any person who believes in equality, visibility and the right to exist without fear or apology. Because freedom is indivisible or it is not freedom. This year's manifesto highlights the importance of solidarity between communities, movements and people experiencing exclusion, discrimination or invisibility. From the LGBTQ community and feminist movements, to immigrants, people with disabilities, workers, farmers and youth, the message is common: the road belongs to everyone. Because when the road is closed for one team, it is only a matter of time before it closes for all of them.

At the same time, Cyprus Pride 2026 continues to claim substantial progress on critical issues of equality and protection of rights, such as equal marriage, adoption, legal gender recognition, access to health, accessibility, and effective protection against crimes and hate speech.

Cyprus Pride 2026 doesn't just "celebrate diversity." It claims public space — physically, legally, and symbolically. It claims the right of every human being to exist without asking permission from those who fear, judge, or exclude them.

The creative curation and implementation of this year's campaign was undertaken by Innovation Leo Burnett, supporting for another year the work and vision of Accept LGBTI Cyprus.

Accept LGBTI Cyprus also expresses warm thanks to all contributors, creators, partners and professionals who selflessly supported the implementation of this year's campaign, contributing with their talent, time and voice so that the message of Cyprus Pride 2026 reaches stronger and farther.

Cyprus Pride 2026 will take place on June 6 at the Nicosia Municipal Garden and invites the public to take to the streets, become part of the march and walk with us the common, proud road of equality, freedom, equality before the law and visibility.

Because equality is not required. It is claimed. Together.
