Social media is very popular among young Europeans, with 89.3% of 16-29 year olds in the EU reporting using it in 2025. This far exceeds the general population, where 67.3% of people used social networks. In fact, Cyprus records the highest percentage compared to the rest of the European Union countries.
In 19 of the 27 EU countries, more than 90% of young people used social networks. In particular, the highest rates were recorded in Cyprus (98.3%), Czechia (97.2%), Denmark (96.9%) and Finland (96.6%), while the lowest were in Italy (80.3%), Germany (84.2%) and Luxembourg (84.8%).

The largest gaps in the use of social networks between the general population and young people were recorded in Croatia (29.2 percentage points, 61.5% of the general population compared to 90.7% of young people), Austria (28.2 percentage points, 67.9% compared to 96.1%) and Poland (27.2 percentage points, 63.3% compared to 90.5%). The smallest gaps were recorded in Denmark (7.2 pps, 89.7% vs 96.9%), Malta (10.3pps, 81.6% vs 91.9%) and Cyprus (11.8pps, 86.5% vs 98.3%)
