The Movement of Ecologists - Citizens' Cooperation denounces a serious incident of animal abuse, after the discovery of a dog injured by a shot in Pera Chorio Nisou.

According to an announcement by the Movement, the incident took place on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. The dog, Maili, was found injured and was immediately taken to a veterinarian, where she receives the necessary medical attention.

A complaint has already been filed for the case and the examinations are before the local police station. According to the same information, there is a suspicious person, which, as reported, makes it necessary to immediately and thoroughly investigate the incident.

The coordinator of the Animal Action Group, Anthi Mouzouri, stressed that such acts cannot go unpunished, noting that animal abuse is a serious social problem and a sign of dangerous behaviour.

Party for the Animals: Four firearms seized from the alleged perpetrator

The Party for the Animals of Cyprus strongly condemns the recent shooting incident of the dog Mailo in Pera Chorio, Nisou, expressing indignation and concern about the event.

According to an announcement by the Party, from the first moment there was communication with the guardian of the animal and the collection of all the necessary information, while direct contact followed with the Police Station of Pera Chorio Nisou, where the case has been reported. As reported, the Police are handling the case with due seriousness, as serious criminal offenses seem to arise.

It is reported that four firearms have already been confiscated from the alleged perpetrator, who has been charged, while he is expected to be brought to justice. The dog's guardian has given full testimony, while the testimonies of neighbours are also considered important, which are estimated to contribute to the clarification of the case.

Based on the data so far, the dog allegedly escaped from the area of his house, as a result of which shots were fired. The alleged perpetrator's claims about the attack on a chicken coop have not been confirmed, while the investigation of the case is ongoing.

The dog was examined by a veterinarian and, according to the information, its health condition does not inspire concern. The relevant veterinary report is expected to be submitted as evidence to the Police.

The Party for the Animals of Cyprus says it is closely monitoring developments and will continue to press for a full investigation of the case and accountability, stressing that such acts of violence cannot be tolerated in a well-governed society. At the same time, it calls on the competent authorities to act immediately and decisively to ensure justice is delivered without discounts.
