THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT'S BUDGET FOR 2027 WAS APPROVED WITH 85% - Rapporteur Hadjipantela - Filenews 28/4

With 85% and the support of all political groups, the budget of the European Parliament for 2027 was approved by the Committee on Budgets, with rapporteur DISY/EPP MEP Michalis Hadjipantela.

The approval was given on Monday, April 27, 2026 and concerns Parliament's own annual operating budget. The total amount of estimates amounts to €2.6 billion.

Hadjipantela was responsible for analyzing the expenditures, formulating political priorities, and drafting the report setting out the allocation of resources for 2027.

The focus of the budget is on strengthening Parliament's core functions, cybersecurity, as well as the digital and green transitions, with the aim of improving the efficiency and resilience of the institution.

As part of the process, intensive consultations were carried out with the shadow rapporteurs of the political groups, with the aim of building consensus on the efficient use of European funds.

At the same time, Hadjipantela has also been appointed rapporteur for the budget of the "Other Departments" for 2027, i.e. the administrative budget of the other institutions of the European Union, except the European Commission.

The MEP said that "the European Parliament's budget for 2027 is a clear political choice: we are investing in a strong, modern and resilient Parliament, which responds to the needs of citizens and the challenges of our time".

Following approval in the Committee on Budgets, the estimates will be put to a vote in the European Parliament's plenary on Thursday 30 April and will form the basis for shaping the overall EU budget for 2027.
