SIGNATURE FOR THE ATHALASSA HOSPITAL HAVE FALLEN - IN THREE MONTHS, THE VIABILITY STUDY FOR THE SECOND AND THIRD PHASES WILL BE READY - Filenews 21/4 by Marilena Panayi
The process for the second and third phases of the new Athalassa hospital has started since, according to information from "F", the contracts for the preparation of the viability study of the project were signed between the State Health Services Organization and the company to which the relevant bid was awarded.
The contract has a duration of three months and upon its expiration the contractor company must deliver the study which will then be forwarded to the Ministry of Finance for final approvals.
The tender for the construction of the two phases of the hospital is estimated to be announced, if all goes well, next Autumn.
The second phase is expected to focus on the continuation of the upgrade of the building facilities and the replacement of older structures of the hospital which are still in use, while the third phase is part of the wider planning for the completion of the modernization project of the mental health hospital.
It is recalled that at the beginning of the year, a report had seen the light of day resulting from a static study prepared on behalf of OKYPY for the Athalassa hospital.
In the report, clear points were made about inappropriate and dangerous buildings for patients and staff, with the guilds of doctors and nurses publicly protesting and blaming both OKYPY and the Ministry of Health.
On January 26, a meeting was held under the Minister of Health and it was decided, among other things, to transfer patients who were being treated in the dangerous wards to other areas.
Last month, it was announced that an agreement was reached for the transfer of patients to a specially designed area at the Christos and Stelios Ioannou Foundation. The agreement provides for a 12-bed ward for mental health patients.
