REACTIONS TO A DEAD DOLPHIN ON A PAPHOS BEACH - THEY LEFT IT ABANDONED ON THE SHORE FOR 10 DAYS - Filenews 15/4 by Dora Christodoulou
The attitude of the competent authorities regarding the dead dolphin that washed up on the coast of Paphos airport on the morning of April 5 is now causing reactions and questions. For 10 whole days, the lifeless marine mammal remains on the beach, having already undergone the obvious changes that its multi-day exposure to natural phenomena entails, without the competent services and authorities coming to the scene yet, as is always the case in similar cases.
Although it was initially estimated that the first two days of the sad incident passed without any action due to the fact that it happened to be a Sunday, however, neither the following week nor until today has any action been taken, as a result of which it is a visible sad sight.
The dolphin was found dead on the morning of April 5 by amateur fishermen who are used to practicing their hobby at this point on the coast outside Paphos airport. They immediately informed the Police and the Fisheries Department, while the local authority was also informed. Although due to the holiday of that day, the transfer of the competent bodies to the site would take place, as duly announced, the next morning, 10 days after the dolphin's carcass remains abandoned in the same place.
The case causes additional protests in Paphos as it was the second dolphin in two weeks to be found dead in the Paphos Sea.
