NEW SCAM THROUGH PHONE CALLS - WHAT SCAMMERS CLAIM IN RELATION TO CRYPTOCURRENCIES

NEW SCAM THROUGH PHONE CALLS - WHAT SCAMMERS CLAIM IN RELATION TO CRYPTOCURRENCIES - Filenews 20/4

The Police recommend caution to the public, regarding a new form of fraud, aimed at extorting money, through phone calls purportedly for profits from investments in cryptocurrencies.

The perpetrators of the scam, through telephone communication with citizens who have invested in the cryptocurrency market, via the internet, claim that they can help citizens receive payments from profits generated by their investments. During their telephone communication, the perpetrators ask to be given access to the citizens' computer, through remote internet connection, while at the same time, they ask citizens to connect themselves online with their bank account.

Since in this way the perpetrators gain access to the computers and the bank account of the citizens, they proceed to transfer money to their own account and ask the citizens to report to them the "OTP" verification codes, which the bank in which they maintain an account has sent them via phone messages, in order to give the necessary approval to process the transaction.

The Police recommends caution to the public, pointing out that passwords to online accounts, personal details and bank accounts must be protected and never disclosed to any persons.

In relation to the conduct of any transactions and investments over the internet, the public is urged to cooperate only with recognized companies and approved advisors, for any financial investments.
