LOCAL RAIN AND STORMS IN THE MOUNTAINS - Filenews 25/4
More instability, with local rains and thunderstorms mainly from noon onwards in the mountains and in the eastern half of the island, is expected on Monday and Tuesday, the Meteorology Officer, Andreas Chrysanthou, told KYPE on Saturday, when asked about the forecasts for the weather conditions in the coming days.
Mr. Chrysanthou said that this is "a scene of instability" that has been observed in previous weeks, with mainly clear weather in the morning hours, local clouds and then the development of clouds that will give rains and thunderstorms.
For today, Saturday, Mr. Chrysanthou said that there will be local cloudiness, which in the mountainous areas, during the midday hours and after, is expected to give some rain. He added that there is a possibility of an isolated storm in the higher mountains, while most areas of the island will remain with mostly clear weather and local cloudiness.
Tonight, he continued, the weather will be mostly clear, with the minimum temperatures remaining quite high for the season, close to 12 degrees inland, around 15 to 16 on the coast and around 10 to 11 degrees in the higher mountains.
Referring to Sunday, the Meteorological Officer said that the weather will be different. Although the day will start with mostly clear weather in most areas, it will gradually become cloudy with medium and high clouds, which will initially give isolated rains.
From noon on Sunday onwards, he added, cloud developments are expected in the mountains, in areas in the north and possibly later in areas of the interior, with isolated rains or even a storm.
Regarding the dust, Mr. Chrysanthou said that today and tomorrow there will be occasional thin dust, in low concentrations. From next week, he noted, conditions are improving and there is no sign of any burden, at least within the limits of the forecast.
Winds, he concluded, are expected to be generally moderate in the coming days.
