FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE IS SPREADING - CASES IN ANOTHER 5 UNITS - THE OCCUPYING ARMY IS OBSTRUCTING VACCINATIONS - Filenews 14/4
Foot-and-mouth disease is spreading with five more units among the cases, while at the same time the vaccination process is taking on political dimensions, as the occupying army is preventing it from taking place.
Sampling from farms located within the infected livestock areas, tracing, and laboratory tests continue. So far, the laboratory of the Health Centers has confirmed four (4) positive units of sheep and goats, in Geri and one (1) positive unit of cattle in Dromolaxia - Meneou, thus reaching 75 infected units in Nicosia (15) and Larnaca (60) within the infected areas.
The second phase of cattle vaccination reached 71%, while in sheep and goats it reached 50.5% of the animal population. At the same time, 84% of the units located within the infected areas have been vaccinated so far from pigs.
Regarding the vaccinations in the livestock units in Pergamon, although all the breeders have consented and are waiting for the Private Veterinarians to vaccinate their animals, the occupying army is preventing this action. The whole issue is handled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the United Nations.
