FOOT AND MOUTH - A CASE IN A SECOND PIGSTY - 101 INFECTED UNITS - Filenews 18/4
Sampling from farms located within the infected livestock areas, tracing, and laboratory tests for foot-and-mouth disease continue.
So far, according to the Veterinary Services, one (1) positive unit of sheep and goats has been confirmed, in Dromolaxia - Meneou, one (1) positive unit of cattle in Geri, and one (1) pigsty in Paliometocho, thus reaching 101 infected units.
• 13 cattle units (9 in Larnaca and 4 in Nicosia),
• 86 sheep and goat units (62 in Larnaca and 24 in Nicosia)
• 2 pig farms in western Nicosia Paliometocho.
Assessment procedures and killings of animals in Nicosia and Larnaca are also continuing.
The second phase of the vaccination of cattle reached 73.5% and in sheep and goats 58.5% of the animal population respectively. As for pigs, 94.73% of the units located within infected areas of 3 and 10 Km have been vaccinated so far.
